Stan's Story
Life
Graduated Dearborn High School, 6/71. Pursued engineering degree at the Univ. of Ill., 9/71-11/74. Withdrew and enlisted USN - active duty 1/75-5/77, reservist thru 11/80. Stationed on amphibious assault ship, USS Barbour County (LST 1195), 5/75-5/77 - home ported San Diego, CA; overseas Subic Bay, Philippine Islands. Attended Univ. of Mich., Ann Arbor, 9/77-5/79 (BBA); 9/79-5/81 (MBA). Married Patricia Newgord (DHS class of 1972) 6/81. Practiced as CPA in Coopers and Lybrand's Detroit office, 1981-87 (2 yrs audit; 4 tax). Practiced as tax consultant for The Upjohn Company 8/87-7/89 (moved from Dearborn to Kalamazoo, MI). Daughter Terri born 10/87; son Scott born 4/89. Returned to Univ. of Mich. Law School 8/89 (moved from Kalamazoo to Ann Arbor, MI area); rec'd JD 5/92. Moved from Ann Arbor, Michigan to San Diego, California area 7/92. Practiced as litigation attorney in San Diego 7/92-8/95 - 2 yrs with Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison; then 1...Expand for more
yr with Coughlin, Semmer and Lipman. Practiced as transactional attorney for Bank of America in San Diego 8/95-12/97. Accepted Bank of America corporate HQ position in San Francisco, California 8/97, moving family to Half Moon Bay, 1/98. After BofA-NationsCredit merger, returned to San Diego as in-house counsel to GreenPoint Credit, subsidiary to large New York chartered financial institution, GreenPoint Bank. Relocated to San Diego area in 12/98. Been living here ever since. Continue to serve as in-house counsel to GreenPoint Credit.
Patty remains as a full-time homemaker. Children are both teenagers now. Terri is attending UC Santa Barbara pursuing undergraduate liberal arts degree with pre-law emphasis. Scott still lives and breathes roller blading as well as creating, editing, and mixing digital roller blading videos. We all enjoy living in Southern California. We see DHS '71 classmate, Sharon Fishbeck, fairly often as she lives near us.
