Stephen's Story
Life
It's been a long time since I've been near Runge. A whole life has past by. I would like to come back and visit old friends. Is there space for a traveler? I have been busy working. I am a control room operator at a power plant. I've worked for this company for nearly 25 years. I have 5 kids. I'm proud of them all. My oldest, Robert, graduated from North Texas. He's the head football coach, basketball coach, track coach, and athletic director for Dawson Middle School. That's the Southlake Carrol Jr. High. After being valedictorian, Jeff, my second, graduated from college and is an RN at East Texas Medical Hospital. Matthew, mt third, is still schooling and has gived me two grandchildren. My daughter Alicia, graduated from North Texas, and is a Lieutenant in the army. She just got back from Kuwait. Cassie is still in school. She lives with my ex-wife. Yeah, that's right, EX-wife. What a relief. My present wife, Emily, is the love of my life. She's a model, and she makes me smile all day long. I've never seen a more beautiful creature in my life. I guess I'll just have to realize that guys are going to stare at her all the time. Oh well, stupidly, she loves me. I want to be a novelist when I grow up. I'm writing a book now. I'm a little different now than way back in the primordial past, when Abe Lincoln and I went to school. I was a little bitty thing back then. Jack Lott was afraid I'd get hurt playing football and decided to make me quit. He, with a quick thrust of his forearm, would throw me yards through the air. Apparently, I was just too stupid to quit. A lot of guys called me whimpy. I don't think I was over 5'2...Expand for more
, 100 pounds til my senior year. Time passed though, and I've changed. I'm still no monster, but I'm 5'11', and I weigh 205. Barbells and dumbells are my passion, and I benchpress 325. I like to read, mostly fiction, but sometimes a good Civil War History. I think that the three volumes written by the late Shelby Foote, 'Civil War Narritive', is the utmost in reading. I've read all 3000 pages five times. I prefer to listen to country music and classical. I've never seen a concert featuring Motzart, with Daryl Worley as the opening act. I've never seen George Strait and Tchychovsky on the same stage, but I'm sure they would be in the perfect world. My wife listens to everything, so I've become a little more rounded. I may come in the house and hear Beethoven or Snoop Dog. I never know. Don't tell anyone, but I can sing 'Sexy Back', right along with Justin Timberlake. That's what my wife has created. I love sports, especially football. My ex once said that I like football more than her. I told her that I like her more than hocky. That was a lie, though. Hocky's way better. I'd rather jam a screw-driver through my spleen than watch hockey, by the way. I really haven't thought much about Runge for a long time, but lately I have missed my old home-town, and I'm determined to visit. I know that I can't listen to Kenneth Dubois tell me about hay bales, and Brad Sullivan won't sledge-hammer me in the chest with his shoulder pads, but perhaps I can stick my finger up in the air and remember what it feels like when the wind blows over Lake Paul. Maybe you can help me remember. By the way, that's obviously not a then picture up top.
