Stephen's Story
Hi,
After graduating WHS in '71 I entered Boston College where I earned a BA in Education (Special Education concentration).
After graduation I taught for approximately eight years and helped establish a program that offered year round services to children evaluated for multiple handicaps ( the majority of the kids were significantly
disenfranchized from their families and the general community). This was an extremely satisfying period of my life and I grew a tremendous amount from the experiences and challenges. I was advancing my graduate studies toward becoming an Administrator of Special Education. But - I came to require a little more financial stability in my life and changed career directions - heading first into computer science and then into finance/financial planning.
I married a little later than usual (in my 30's) - meeting my wife while skiing in the Berkshires. Though divorced now - we have a wonderful son (Kevin - 16 in 2009) who is just a great-great child.
I kept my nose down working - but revised how I spend my time a bit when age 50 rolled around. Lately - I make sure I put time into a new event or outlet not experienced before. In 2003 - I submitted a screenplay into the Project Greenlight competition and also tried t...Expand for more
he Boston CRASH-B Int'l Indoor Rowing Challenge (for fun) where I gave the reigning European Champion (from the 40 - 49 Heavyweight group), who was rowing next to me, something to think about for the first 2 meters of our 2,000 meter race. I tried the Pinnacle and ReMax Long Drive Golf Challenge and stood up well to the 'Michigan Monster' and the 'Tennessee Twister' -but- 'Lewie from St. Louie' flew by my long drive. I've delved into writing a bit and attended several writing conferences to advance this interest.
With a few fellow longtime Winchester friends & Greater Bostonian friends - I have had a wonderful time for 20+ years playing in a golf tourney against a like group from Canada (for fun & bragging rights only). We gather for several days, every September, in Stowe, Vermont.
In 2005 - I was selected as an At-large delegate to the White House Conference on Aging and we were asked to focus on key Boomer generation resolutions. Until the next conference convenes (2015) - I will continue to work with the other 1,200 delegates to advance the key resolutions crafted and voted on at the 2005 conference.
I have many wonderful memories of my years and friends at Immaculate Conception, Lynch Jr High, and WHS.
Best Wishes to All - Steve
