Steve's Story
Life
After RHS I went to ISU for a year and a half. Danny Kerr and I dropped out of ISU and went to work at a steel mill Northwestern Steel & Wire in Sterling-Rock Falls Illinois {Home county of Dutch Reagan, the greatest President of the U.S. in my lifetime}. Porky Holiday and M Stewart also accompanied us to IL. Somewhere in this chronology Jr. Dowd and I left the Beechwood Cafe{Jim Spanky Sparks/Lord Baltimore's} around midnight to head west and join the "Crotch". Earl & Jim caught up with us in Clovis NM. We threw down a couple back then! God Bless America. That takes me to 1966. In August my dad Jim died. In November I got married. On December 12 I went on active duty in the USMC. I was honorably discharged 12/10/69. My first born son Shawn was born 9/17/69. I entered IU {Bloomington} in December 1969, on the GI Bill. I graduated from IU in 1972 with a BA. After fumbling around Indiana for 1.5 years { working briefly on an MS at ISU a waste of time} I moved to Corona, ...Expand for more
CA { February 1974} where I still reside. My second son James was born 1/29/75. I went into the construction business as a laborer, worked up to an operator, became a foreman, and then in 1979 bought a backhoe and passed the General Engineering Contractors License Test. I went into business for myself. I'm still digging ditches and laying pipe. No rest for the wicked! My divorce was final in December 1975. John {Justice} Dowd and I stay in touch. He usually comes out to Southern Cal around Labor Day in reverance to the '60s when we used to...P.S.I was driving a cabover Kenworth, hauling a 580 Case backhoe, on 12/27/77. when I ran into a Union Pacific freight train in Riverside, CA. I woke up 4 days later with all these tubes in my body. Ever since I've become a disciple of Friedrich Hayek & David Allan Coe. Everybodys got to believe in something...I believe I'll have another brew! P.P.S: I'm still searching for that perfect wave, and hell I don't even surf! Remember Charles Bukowski
