Stephen's Story
Life
After high school, I went to Clark University, in Worcester, where I met Helen Jones, who married me in 1992. At that time, we were in Washington, with me pursuing a MS in Entomology at Washington State Univ. After this, and after 4 months in Brazil, we went to Illinois, where I did my PhD in Entomology at Univ. Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In Illinois, we had 2 of our kids, Alexander and Rebecca. , I went to Washington DC to work first as a postdoc and then as a Research Entomologist at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. We had another kid, Anthony, in Washington. After about 3 years, I took a permanent position with the California Department of Food & Agriculture, where I am an Insect Biosystematist (I identify potential pest flies, and I pursue my own research on flies), and I am the supervisor for the Entomology lab.
