Stephen's Story

Life I worked for Sears in various stores in Chicago until 1979. I left Sears to go to MD and run a truck stop supply company. I left MD in 1986 to open a Jiffy Lube in Wilmington, NC. Susan my wonderful wife of 30 years passed on from cancer in 2005. I have 5 daughters the youngest graduated from UNCC in Charlotte in 2006. I have 3 boxers, Ruby, Jade, and Zoe, my 3 boxers have passed on now. The photo was taken in 1998 at age 54 and the one of myself and 4 of my daughters was taken Dec, 2005, I live in NC now on the coast almost 36 years now, and loved it from the day I got here the weather is great its like being on vacation. I play softball twice a week april thru oct in a senior league, we have 12 teams, and I play racquetball, pickleball 2 to 5 times a week and tennis only occasionally now ... still work a little mostly afternoons as I still have 1 Jiffy Lube which one of my daughters manages...am trying to do more traveling now will be going to Alaska in June 2015 and a couple cruises also, just enjoying life and as we like to say living the "dream".. I am marrying my last daughter this yr 2016 in St Johns VI have a villa rented there where we will have the wedding and am looking forward having the whole family there for the week.. We had a great time in St John's wish it was 2 weeks went up to NY in Sept and did some sightseeing in VA on the way back and the NC mountains in October maybe go to FLA in Jan for a week or so. Planning a train trip across Canada maybe next year. Taking the trip this summer 2017 Canadian Rockies from Vancouver to Calgary on the train. maybe go down to the keys this Feb. or March I have another new granddaughter now 5 mos That makes 6 grand children the second youngest is 4 1/2 now and she is miss personality plus and so cute. She gets so excited every time she sees me I may steal her away from her mother. I am going to the mountains again this fall in western Carolina and going on a cruise this coming feb with about 10 other couples I think I will rent a villa again this next year in St Simons for a week and have the whole family down. We had a wonderful time in St Johns 2 years ago. My fiancé and I will try to have both families there for the week. I took the cruise in Feb 1 on one of the largest ships Oasis of the Seas Royal Caribbean beautiful ship but service is not what it used to be next cruise will be a river cruise I think most likely Europe. Just got back from St Simons Ga took the family down for a week had a great time. We are taking a river cruise this year for about 10 days on the Rhine and planning a cruise in the eastern Mediterranean next year. Just got back from Europe had a great time cruising the Rhine river saw Switzerland, France, Germany, and Netherlands. The service was excellent reminded me of the way service used to be on the ocean cruises and Air France was the best. Sept we went up to the US Open in NY a good friend got us box seats and a hotel for 3 days watched the women's semi finals and mens dbls finals had a great time we also went to state pickleball my wife got 3rd in stat...Expand for more
e for her division. We are going to Costa Rica next year for a week with the whole family and a couple extra friends have a 9 bedroom villa on the west coast there. Well we didn't go to Costa Rica this year "the virus" very sad was really looking forward to it. I'm not sure if we will do anything this year 2020 just staying home working on the garden. Well its been along year with the "virus" so we have decided to move to a bigger house hopefully the "final house" its a lot bigger but better for "entertaining" we like to have friends over for causal get to gathers only 4 or 5 miles from where we are now.. Well we moved to our new house really like it still fixing it up going to Bermuda for a week never been there before and going on a cruise in the eastern med next year for 12 days out of Athens see Greece Turkey and Isreal. We are trying to catchup haven't done anything for the last year and half. Bermuda is beautiful but 2 many covid tests all the time and they screwed up one of my tests said I was negative but wouldn't give me a "safe key " pass. They got it straighten out after about a half day said it was a glitch in their system. A lot of places closed up. We never got to the Mediterranean this year 2022 cruise line went bankrupt in January looking for something else to do right now going to the outer banks in august and working on the landscaping on our new home fixing it is challenging since covid because most of the trades can't find people to work so they pick and choose their jobs. i have to say most of the people I have gotten are Latin and they work like beavers very industrious. The only problem at times is communication. I sold my last business in march so I'm officially retired completely now odd feeling but may do something else just as an investment. Its been a little different being retired enjoying it no responsibilities a lot less phone calls and e-mails ... at 78 old age is catching up to me little by little giving up softball after this year, no tennis any more but still play racquetball and pickle ball and getting to know all my doctors "intimately" one knee replaced and due for a hip or 2 ...going to have to make due with the shoulders the way they are 2 long a recovery for them but I have enjoyed all my sports the last 25 years or so. Well this year we are catching up on lost time from covid Going to Costa Rica for a week, then to eastern mediterranean for a 2 week cruise to Greece, Turkey, and Israel on Seabourn and the a 2 week cruise to all the SE caribbean Islands for 2 weeks going to try Oceania for this one. We went to Costa Rice took my 2 youngest children and their familys. We had a awesome time. Zip lining, parasailing, ATV and lots of swimming. People were wonderful the villa was wonderful. So sad we had to leave almost had to cry. The cruise to the eastern med was terrific we had a great time visited about 13 different ports in Greece, Turkey, and Israel Seabourn is a great cruise line. Amazing visiting places and building's some of which were over thousands of years old from the time of Christ and before.
