Stephen's Story

Life I Graduated from the University of Arizona in "71" with BS in Nuclear Engineering. In June of 1971 I married Joyce Roth, whom I met at church. I served 20 years in the United States Air Force as an Instructor Pilot, most of my flying time is in the B-52. I retired in 1992 as a Lt. Col. and began teaching in 1993. After the military I became a math teacher and my last job before retirement was principal at Elim Elementary, in Hilmar, CA. I have 5 children; Dawn is a teacher in San Diego, Tawnie is a satellite engineer and advises the military on satellite contracts , Shawna graduated from Humboldt State U. in CA and is an RN, Steve Jr. is a sheriff. The youngest Awndrea, is a special education teacher. Joyce was the Associate Principal at Atwater High School in Atwater, CA.She retired at the end of the 2015 school year due to medical reasons. duated from Air Force pilot training in 1973 and continued at Williams AFB as an Instructor Pilot for four years. While stationed at Williams AFB I was in Raindance and Check Section. I was the senior scheduler while in Check Section. My next duty was as a Missile Launch Officer at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson. I was in the 571st SMS and later Chief of the Simulator Branch and finally Chief of Individual Training. I returned to flight duties in the B-52 at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth. I served as an Instructor Pilot in the 9th Bomb Squadron Carswell AFB, Chief Instructor Pilot in the 9th Bomb Squadron, and Chief of Bomber Stan/Eval. I was assigned to Castle AFB in July of 1987. While stationed in the 328th Bomb Squadron I was the Operations Officer. The highlight of my military career was Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I lead the first contingent of B-52s in theatre immediatly following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. For the next six months I trained B-52 crews in preparation for the start of hostilities. I retired in 1992 as a Lt Col at Castle AFB, CA.

Part of the Children of the World Choir will be staying at my house for three days. They are raising money for refugee children. There will be a free performance at Bear Creek Community Church this Wednesday at 6:30 pm, 171
