Stephen's Story
I attended Longfellow I think in 1961 and was in Mrs Osborns kindergarten class.I went to St Mary's for the first grade,then back to Longfellow for the second grade.I was in I think Mrs Mershantes class,I think it is spelled that way.I lived at 409 Cornhill st.Anyway my family moved to tennessee in 1964.I did not like it in tennessee After I graduated high school in 1974 I went into the US Navy and in April 75 I was on the aircraft carrier USS Midway participating in the evacuation of south Vietnam.I got out of the Navy and in 1982 i went into the Army national guard.In 1990 my unit was activated to go to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm,which we went up to kuwait for 2 months.Then in january 03 my unit was activated to Fort Campbell Ky to help the 101st ship its equipment to Kuwait.I was also there when the 101st got their equipment back from Iraq.In Aug 06 I was sent to Phoenix Az to serve in Operation Jump Start.I...Expand for more
worked as a diesel mechanic while there.I spent 22 and a half months in Phoenix.After having to come back to tennessee,i got back with my unit to train up to go to Iraq.While at Camp Atterbury I got hurt but I didn't think I was hurt that bad.So I get to Iraq and I fell 3 times and finally the Army evacuated me to Germany then to Andrews afb then to Fort Campbell.They set up surgery for me in Nashville Tn where the surgeon took some discs out of my neck,anyway that is about it He fused them together,and found I had degenerative arthritis in my upper back then one day after I had stopped smoking I contacted Pneumonia and after that they started doing more tests and found out J had COPD.So after Vietnam,Desert storm and Iraqi Freedom the Army decided to retire me out.I live in Johnson city TN,but I love to come to Illinois to see my uncle up in Putnam,and to also get as much old style beer that I can carry back to tn with me.
