Stephen's Story
Life
After H.S. I entered the world of the military and work for a few years before entering college at age 24. I graduated USC-U (AS) 1982, USC- Upstate (BS) 1984 and earned a graduate degrees from Erskine (M.Div) 1987 and a Doctorate in Pastoral Care and Counseling at Gardner Webb University in 2015. After teaching at good old LHS for 5 years (1979-1984), became a minister. I served two SC churches as a full time pastor - Buffalo Baptist Church (1985-1990) and North Conway Baptist Church in Conway (1990-1998). In 1995, during a Sabbatical of sorts, I wanted the experience of studying in a different culture so we traveled to British Columbia and studied one semester at Regent College in Vancouver. In 2005 I began working at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC as the Director of Pastoral Care and Clinical Pastoral Education.In 2013 I began work as the Director of Spiritual Care at CaroMont Health in Gastonia, NC. I am married to the former Jennie Garner of Jonesville, SC and we have a grown son- Scott who died in 2011.
I have served Mt. Tabor and Lockhart Presbyterian Church as Pastor since 2000. I also teach as an Adjunct Professor of Religion at the University of South Carolina Union. The courses I teach include: Religion in the American South, Religion and Culture, Psychology of Religion, New Testament and The Hebrew Bible.
Jennie and I am presently living on a beautiful family farm near Union, SC.
