Cortland, NY

Stephen's Story

retired and living in FLA. Still have ties to central NY with a place over by Moravia. Would have had it finished and sold by now but I ran into a slight(???) delay the summer of 2012. Actually, what I ran into was a tractor trailer with my motorcycle-sidecar rig. Did it hurt??? oh yeah--big time. I remember every second of it. Broke a bunch of bones. Lower left leg,(both bones) left forearm, pelvis(snapped in half), handful of ribs with a punctured lung. Spent about 4 months in the hospital with about one of those in ICU attached to lots of tubes. Fortunately my funny-bone didn't get broke. Took another 2 months to get out of the wheelchair and walking again. Three things I looked forward to during recovery were....Taking a shower, wiping my own butt, and standing to pee like a man. from complete independence to complete dependence in a split second. It's a humbling experience and makes you very appreciative of everything in life...however, I don't recommend this to anyone else. Now, you're probably wondering if I'll ever get back on a bike again. If so, you don't know me well at all. I had the replacement bike bought before I was out of the hospital. The replacement sidecar came later on. If you see a bright red Honda motorcycle with a pearl white sidecar that looks like a prop from a star wars movie around Cortland this summer--that be me. If I'm not on it look for someone close by with a noticeable limp. . Over a million miles(conservative estimate) and 5 accidents--2 major, 3 minor, which figures out to about 200,000 between each---the odds are in my favor again
