I have few memories of STJ that are pleasant. That does not mean I have an axe to grind. Growing up gay at that time and in that place? Chester and St. James? Many years in therapy helped put things in perspective. But then there are days I remember it all... but those days are few. Briefly - Left Chester, joined the Marianists, college, teaching, drinking alcoholically, asked to leave the Marianists as I was a drunk, continued to teach and drink. I ended up face down in the gutter with no job and no brain. Oscar Wilde would have been disappointed in me. So many stories that have never been told! The AA years - Went through a redneck rehab. Seriously. The other patients burned crosses on lawns and beat up fags on friday night. Great. This was going to be a fun 28 days. Back to the real word with no home and no job. I spent 5 years going to AA meetings almost daily. I met the one person I have ever truly loved. Rick committed suicide. We talked about it. I knew he was going to do it. I knew I could not stop it.
