Stephen's Story

The West End of Louisville is where I grew up and learned the lessons that have guided me through life. St. Cecilia School developed in me the character and Catholic person that gave me the strength to follow my faith. Flaget High School - the education offered in a Catholic high school continued the solid foundation of my faith and education. Graduated from Bellarmine College majoring in mathematics, MS from University of Louisville in Community Development. Navy - a career that lasted 15 years beginning as beginning as a gunfire control technician and ending as Lt. Steve Porter in Naval Intelligence. Married a Catholic girl I met while I was a counselor living at Boys' Haven. We had three children - one lives in San Francisco, another in Newport News, VA and the third living in Indiana. ongview, WA. I love to travel, take cruises, climb mountains, swim the Pacific - none of which I can no longer do. While the little boy inside me encourages me to climb that mountain the old man outside me says "whoa boy, you're not as young as you used to be". So I just enjoy my afternoon naps and dream of things that were and of my new life that is to come. Since the pandemic I sought out and found a church with the traditional Latin Mass and have never been so fulfilled. I pray the Rosary every day - in Latin. I also pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, the Chaplet of St. Philomena, the Flame of Love and many other prayers on a daily basis. The blessings I have received are many. The people I have met are many. Praying the St. Bridget 12 year prayer has given me new purpose. I hope all my classmates have experienced a new revival in their spiritual life as I have.
