Stephen's Story

Hi everybody. New Jersey has been my home for most of my life. I am recently remarried and self employed as a carpenter specializing in interior stairs and railings. I am still gainfully employed and don't plan on retiring. I have been an avid cyclist for many years, picked up the activity in college and still pack on the miles whenever the weather is good and I have the time. My wife Lorrie is a high school teacher and a top level triathlete dedicated to the sport with over 20 years of racing experience. USA Triathlon ranked her as 7th in the nation for 2011 in her age group of 55-59. To say the least we have an active lifestyle and although I wont be retiring soon I do see tiring a remote possibility. Immediately after high school I started college at Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia. I only attended for 2 semesters studying to be an architect but dropped out as the combination of working nights and schooling days took too much of a toll on me. I then started working as a draftsman also in Philadelphia and spent a year there until the US Army drafted me. Somehow I eluded the Vietnam war and spent most of my 2 years of service in Germany. After the service I moved back into my parents home in Willingboro and re-started my education at Burlington County College. I transferred to Stockton State College after 2 years...Expand for more
and received a BA in Psychology. The day after graduating from Stockton I hopped on my bicycle and with a friend rode across the country, starting in Atlantic City where we dipped our wheels in the Atlantic. After 50 days we reached the west coast in West Port, Washington State and dipped our wheels in the Pacific. It was a great trip and a wonderful experience which I am still in shape to do. Hopefully in the near future my wife Lorrie and I will have the opportunity to do it again only from west to east this time. My riding partner Nick and I met some very interesting characters and saw some wonderful sights. We traveled across through the northern states on Highway 2. Riding through Glacier National Park was a big highlight and our longest single day distance (118 miles). The first 18 miles was all uphill to the top of Logan Pass on Going to the Sun Road. My first marriage in 1975 lasted 31 years and we had 3 wonderful children; Sam, Nathan and Dawn. Sam is now married and I have 3 wonderful grandchildren; Cienna, Luca and Emalia. My first wife and I parted in 2006 and I remarried in 2008. My 3 children are all college grads and all gainfully employed thankfully. Life has been good to me, I have good health, a great family, many good friends and a wonderful wife. As far as I am concerned it doesn't get any better.
