Stephen's Story
I'm a professional archaeologist and a systems analyst. I've worked in the Near East for more than 30 years, including fieldwork in Jordan, Israel and Egypt. Since 2000 I have directed the Moab Archaeological Resource Survey in Jordan. I earned my BA in Ancient Near Eastern Studies from Cincinnati Bible Seminary in 1978, my MA in Anthropology/Public Archaeology from the University of South Carolina in 1989, and my Ph.D. in Anthropology/Archaeology from Arizona State University (ASU) in 1995. I am an Affiliated Professor in the School of Human Evolution & Social Change at ASU, IT Manager for the Archaeological Research Institute, and Director of the Geo-Archaeological Information Applications Lab. eological and GIS database applications for a variety of platforms. My research interests include early complex societies in the Near East and North Africa, the Levantine Bronze Age, Predynastic and Archaic Egypt, mortuary analysis, spatial analysis, GIS and remote sensing, database development and design. I have published in American Antiquity, the Journal of Archaeological Science, the Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research, the Journal of Mediterranean Archaeology, Radiocarbon, the Journal of Archaeological Research, the Journal of Anthropological Archaeology and the Annual of the Department of Antiquities of Jordan. Currently I'm working on the Digital Archaeological Atlas of the Holy Land and the Digital Archaeological Atlas of the Prehistoric Aegean. I'll be off to Greece for the summer of 2009 to work on the Aegean project.
