Stephen's Story

To those of you who have remained close, and especially those who still call Wailua home, I admire the integrity, hard work and less than selfish actions it takes to make a community what it is. My Story? Okay-44 years in 44 seconds. I met you guys halfway through 9th grade in 1976. My parents had both become dysfunctional and unable to care for me. We would travel a week to get to the fishing grounds which were about a thousand miles due north of Honolulu. Swordfish to the east coast, North Pacific bluefin tuna straight to Japan. Zero by-catch. Then we troll the 1000 miles home, sunrise to sunset working the bird piles, using bait, jigging aku albacore shibi. After the demise of the aku boots and before the frozen cubes of today, it felt good to contribute to the kau kau supply.
