Stephen's Story

Military 4 years of my life I will never forget. Made some great friends, who I still think about. Have tried to locate some of them, but have not had much success. Taught tech school, Block 3 Environmental Systems and was in the 58th squadron as a student. 1/28/15: Decided to write a detailed story: I lived in Owosso approx. 4 years, from 1966 to 1970. I attended Owosso Jr. High for 2 years and Owosso High for 2 years. Our family then moved to Blue Ridge, Georgia and I attended West Fannin High my last 2 years of school, and graduated there. I then joined the Air Force in 1972 for four years, where I was stationed at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, IL., and became an instructor in aircraft maintenance. After getting out of the service in 1976, I moved to Mason, Mi. and worked at Fisher Body in Lansing. Worked there for a few months and decided to quit and go to school at Lansing CC. While attending there, I joined the Michigan Air National Guard at Selfridge AFB, for a one year enlistment. After LCC, I moved to Holt, Mi. and worked at Wheels Toyota in Lansing, as an asst. service mgr and then at Schmidt's grocery store in Holt, as a stock clerk. Somewhere after or in all of this, I moved to Alpena, Mi., and worked at Detroit Gasket. I then moved to Blue Ridge, Ga. in 1978 or 79, and worked at Taylor & Jones, making furniture. In 1980 I moved to Grand Junction, Co. and worked at Weberg Furniture, where I first worked as a warehouse worker, and then was promoted to warehouse manager. Left Weberg Furniture and took a job at Empire Staple Co., where I worked in retail sales and tool repair. Was laid off, due to a major economic downturn in the area and had to move back to Georgia. This happened in 1983. Got a job working with a home builder doing odd jobs. Decided to go back to school, so I quit and took a one-year computer programming course at Pickens Tech, in Jasper, Ga. After school, I got a job at Marketing Services in Dalton, Ga., in the machine shop, doing computer drafting and gofer work. While working there, I met a beautiful woman working in one of the sister companies. We dated and then got married, this was in 1985. Left the machine shop, for a job in the sample company manager trainee program. After training, I took a position of...Expand for more
asst. mgr. at Calhoun Sample Co., in Calhoun, Ga. Left there to take a position at corporate headquarters, as a computer programmer. Got involved in the computerized timekeeping system, which led to a job with the company that installed the system, International Equipment Co., in Chattanooga, Tn. This happened in 1988. Also during this time, 1985 to 1988, I was a member of the Georgia Air National Guard, at Dobbins AFB in Marietta, Ga. I worked for IEC, for about 7 years. Started out in the timekeeping division and then went into the fire alarm division. One of our customers for the timekeeping system and also for our fire alarm systems, was BlueCross BlueShield of Tn. in Chattanooga. By knowing the new maintenance manager at BlueCross, I was able to get a job there as a Maintenance Engineer, in charge of the computerized fire alarm system and energy management system. After about 4 and a half years doing this, I was able to transfer to the I/S dept and do PC support work. I did this for the next 13 years. With almost 18 years working at BlueCross, I was eligible to retire. After retiring, my wife wanted me to join her in real estate, so I became licensed in Tennessee and Georgia and am now a real estate associate at Coldwell Banker Kinard Realty, in Ringgold, Ga. Update (2/11/2023): Left real estate after a couple of years, didn’t do very well, I guess I wasn’t cut out to be a salesman. Moved to Woodstock, Georgia to try real estate before I decided to get out. In February of 2020, I separated from my wife and moved back to Grand Junction, Co. In July of 2020, my wife divorced me, but we are currently good friends. We talk or text nearly every day. Due to the Covid mess, I decided to move back east, I was starting to get very lonely for family. Moved to Cleveland, Tn. in March of 2021. I currently work part-time at Toyota of Cleveland. I am an office runner. I deliver paperwork between 5 different dealerships, which are part of an automotive group. 3 are in Cleveland and the other 2 in Chattanooga. The main office of the group is also located in Chattanooga. I also deliver paperwork to the Bradley county tag office and also the Hamilton county tag office. I also go to the post office and make bank deposits for the group.
