Stephen's Story
Life
After graduating from Craig in 1972, I joined the Air Force, in the Fire Protection specialist field,(Structural,Crash Fire Fighting, rescue, Haz Mat Tech, high rescue,and confined space rescue). Spent 4 years in active duty. Left the Military, and joined the civil service,(DOD). Spent 27 1/2 years with the DOD, as a Fire Fighter. Retiring as a Captain, in 2003.
For a part time job, I drove for Market Day Corp. in Wisconsin. I worked for them until 2006.
Was very involved with, The Red Cross, (CPR Instructor). Later switched to American Heart Assoc. This enabled me to certify EMT, for recerts on CPR.
In January of 2006 we moved to Florida, to enjoy retirement. Spent my time fixing our Mobile Home, Doing Maitenance for the park, golfing, baseball spring training game's,fishing,time with my grand c...Expand for more
hildren, and traveling. Due to my wife medical bill's, I took a job, as a Fire Fighter in Iraq. I spent one year in Mosul, Northern Iraq. My job was Fire Protection, On Diamondback, and Marez FOB's. This also included the Mosul Airport in US hands, and the main hospital fo all "H" sites. Both sires, the Airport, and constant bombings in the city, with mortar, and rocket fire on us, kept us busy!
Air Force Basic training took place near San Antionio, TX. Lackland Air Force Base. There I spent 7 week in basic. Then my assignment took me to Chanute AFB, ILL. This was the location of the Fire Protection Training school. This would last for 8 weeks. My first assigned duty station was at Grissom, AFB, Ind.(SAC). I remained at this site for 4 years. I was sent to various schools, during that time, to enhance my training.
