Kelly's Story

...drunk and high every day in school, I was finally booted out in '79 (I think!). I was on probation,so I had to attend a "special" school for "outlaws". I soon found myself in Abilene for awhile, always drunk, much of the time in trouble and eventually homeless. I sold my guitar for a bottle of tequila and a bus ticket back to Lubbock where I soon began a career as a bartender/DJ in the strip clubs. I did the strip club scene for a very long time. In and out of rehab I married a dancer and we had 2 kids. By '86 I had changed my name to "Steve Kelly" and got a job at FMX. I continued on in radio and clubs as a DJ for many years. That was off and on, as I would move away ...Expand for more
to Portland Oregon, or somewhere in Minnesota my wife ran to. I was homeless in Portland for awhile too. Other radio stations I worked for were: KCRM (the Cream of Classic rock), 98 KOOL (Oldies), MIX 100, Hot Country 101 and I did camera for KAMC Channel 28 for a litte while. May 13 1991, I finally got sober. I got a scholarship to Tech in '93 and ended up with a Masters Degree in '02. By then I had had 5 kids by 4 different mama's. I'm very divorced and my youngest daughter lives with me. The other 4 kids are in Amarillo, Tucson Arizona, Bemidji Minnesota and Superior Wisconsin.
