After high school, I attended the College of William and Mary, receiving a degree in political science. For the next 7 years, I worked as a political campaign professional in political campaigns, including the Reagan 1976 and Reagan 1980 campaigns. In between campaigns, I worked for various state legislators. In 1981, I became a member of the Reagan administration, and ended up staying through the end of the first Bush administration. I worked at the Department of Education, the United States Customs Service, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, and finally the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
