Steve's Story

Played Bass Guitar for TRUTH, PEGASUS, & the LEMONPIPERS from 1964 - 1973 while earning my AA (LAVC) & BA (CSUN) in History, and finally, a MA in Educational Administration & Supervision in 1975 from CSULB. Also Music Business classes at UCLA - Put my education to work? - Established EASTWING PRODUCTIONS w/Recording & Rehearsal Studios, Managed local Rock Band SATYR, and began local concert promotions (LA Valley College, Granada Theater, etc.). Relocated to Hawaii late in 1975 for promotion of the 2 day Bicentennial Celebration, the "1976 DiamondHead Crater Festival", featuring over 20 national headliners (Bachman Turner Overdrive, America, Seals & Crofts, Herbie Hancock, Melissa Manchester, Tower of Power, Country Joe & the Fish, Cheech & Chong, Sly Stone & Billy Preston, etc.) Did the final Diamondhead Crater Festival in '78 (War, Little River Band, Cecilio & Kapono, etc.), as well as 3 soldout shows at the NBC Arena with Earth, Wind, and Fire, among many other shows. Moved to Laurel Canyon and continued concert promotion with a partner in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Very profitable stadium shows included: The Eagles, Steve Miller Band, 3 Canadian tours w/Alice Cooper, & Jeff Beck/Harvey Mandel tour. Bought a house in Topanga, built a nightclub in Redding, CA where I bought a small farm/ranch. Got married for second time, with daughter Heather unexpectantly being born at home in Topanga. concert promotion in Southern California (3 day Bluegrass - C&W series for SFV State Fair [Devonshire Downs] - Tammy Wynette, Juice Newton, Rick Nelson, Leon Russell) Hired as Consultant for the inventor of the PC & cofounder of Apple Computer, Steve Wozniak's first 3 day US Festival in Devore, CA. Also reused the huge site to produce a 2 day televised series, "Summerfest - Return to the 60's". Forced to retire from concert promotion when severely injured in near fatal auto accident requiring months in the hospital & occupational/physical therapy, and followed by lengthy physical rehabilitation. During this period I also received custody of my 4 yr. old daughter in divorce, and thanks to being without medical insurance plus related business misadventures while I was incapacitated, I also lost my house. Since a move was in order, Heather and I moved to Kailua-Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Heather continued her 2nd grade at Kahakai Elementary School, located a couple hundred feet from the ocean, while I partnered to establish a local publication, "Kona Coast TV & Entertainment Guide", accepting the positions of Editor, staff writer, photographer, double columnist, and head of distribution. As Heather grew, so did the weekly magazine. It expanded in size, and then circulation, becoming "Hawaii's TV & Entertainment Guide" covering the entire Big Island. I think I've gotten a bit carried away...
