Steve Jarvis:  

After high school, I worked at Super Service gas station next to Parker Plumbing. Then it was Triple "A" meat on Depot St.around the corner from Toms Chinese Kitchen, punching out hamburger patties.In October of 68, I went into the U.S.Air Force. First time away from home,engaged,first time on a plane. WOW! I went to Lackland AFB in Texas for basic, then on to Chanute AFB near Chicago for tech school. After tech school a shock assignment of 18 months to Okinawa!I worked on the C-141 cargo jet taking supplies to Viet Nam. It was a long time to be away from home and hard to get that "Dear John" letter. Returning to the states, I was stationed at Travis AFB near San Francisco and did my last two years of service there. Getting out on Aug 22, 1972, I entered Citrus Jr College. I wanted to try and get back into baseball, but I had to work to support myself,so I took up Javelin throwing for the Track and Field team. I graduated in June of 1974 with an AA degree. I transfered to Whittier College and majored in Physical Education and a minor in Biological Sciences. I continued to throw the Javelin and set the school record and was third place at the NCAA DIV.III Nationals at the University of Chicago in 1976. For that I received All America honors. The bad side of this,I had to miss my graduation as it was on the same weekend as the track meet!! I married the summer before my senior year and had two boys. I started teaching at Jones Jr. High in BP. as a PE teacher in Sept.of 1976. After three years at Jones I went one year to Sierra Vista High and then on to BPHS ...Expand for more
