More about Steve:"If the block is long. rather hilly and strewn with ruts then I have been around it... Don't get me wrong, the trip has produced beautiful vistas and great joy - It's just that there were some rough patches and odd detours along the way. It boils down to choices, we all make them daily, for better or for worse. Looked upon through a conventional lens I'll accept some of my choices were not well advised - but they were learning experiences. On the whole, and with the vast panorama (called hindsight) that time provides at my age, I am happy with this path of mine... Born on a holiday, in Berkeley, California, I was the youngest of three children and the only boy child. Destined to taking out the trash and never getting a window seat it is no small wonder I became a dreamer. It also helped where I grew up: We live in the El Cerrito hills on the corner of Stockton and Seaview Drive. Just down the block lived the Bekins, I never knew if they were the same Bekins with the moving company that was "Car...Expand for more
eful, Quick and Kind, but they did have a huge wooden multi-storied house I was sure was haunted. Now the Bekins house sat right next to a big ol' gully. In late summer I would take a piece of cardboard to this gully and slide down its steep slops on the dry grass. You could get going so fast your eyes would sink back into your head! And right next to the gully was Moser Lane - the steepest street in the WHOLE WORLD...and on the other side of Moser Lane was a big hill with a big fence all around it. It was a scary place, all lonely looking, with big rocks and dark caves and it was called Dead Mans Hill. Really!!! Just look it up on Google Earth, it's all there to this day, even the haunted house. We moved to Lafayette when I was going into 3rd grade. My dad was an architect and he designed our new house. It sat on a big lot in a little development called Hidden Valley Hollow. I remember looking up at the empty hill behind our house and thinking "I could explore forever". On the other side of the hill was the Lafayette reservoir: a vast untamed wilderness not yet opened to the public. Huckleberry Finn and I would sneak down to the water and catch Bluegill with nothing but a piece of a grape on the hook. Those were the days. School was boring, I did well on tests but refused to do homework. Because of this I had to stay after school every day ( until I finished my homework) then walk home. I took up singing the hits of the day to pass time on these evening walks. To this day I still love to sing - and with that much practise I sing pretty darn good...If I do say so myself. Got to go - the rest will have to wait".
