Steve's Story
College
After graduating from Washington High in 1974, I signed a baseball contract with the Phillies, and sat out a year before starting college at Cosumnes River in the fall of 1975. I went out for the football team, but was so out of shape that I ended up quitting the team, after the first game of the season. After 2.5 years at Cosumnes, I went on to Sac State and graduated with a BS degree in Business and minor in marketing. In the summer of 1986, I started working on my MS degree in Management, at Golden Gate University. I completed my Masters toward the end of 1989. While working for my company (GTE) in Dallas Texas in 1997, I began working on a Master's Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. Once moving back to Southern Cal, I completed the program in 2001.
Workplace
I started working for GTE in Sacramento in 1982. In 1993, due to consolidation, and cutbacks at the Sacramento Data Center, I took a job in Tampa with the company. where I provided site support for about 100 Business Sales Reps and managers. It was a dead end job for me, so in the Summer of 1997, I took a Job in Dallas as a Project Manager for the Year 2000 project. It was a great job. I oversaw the testing and certification of all the company's Desktop Hardware and software products, along with all our products used for our internal network. I knew when taking the job, that it would only last up until all the products (1600 total for my groups)were tested and would work, come year 2000. Once I completed that project, I wanted to move back to California and took a job in Long Beach, preforming system support activites, which includes PC hardware/software support, Application and network support, phone system support, among a number of other activities. It's Now November of 2005 and I'm still here, next to the Long Beach Airport. I changed jobs with the company at the start of January, and Support a system used by ISPs, such as Earthlink and AOL, to report all their DSL problems in. I love the job and may decide to say past my retirement in Nov of 2006.
