Steve's Story
Life
At the ripe old age of 57, I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and began to re-evaluate my life, my relationships, and career in light of it. AS is on the mild side of the autism spectrum, characterized by failure to make close friendships, impulsive behavior, and deep interests in potentially narrow subjects. It is thought that Einstein, Bill Gates, and other well known men have had AS.

hand to wanting to tell someone that I cared about them. I've felt like an outsider and resented those around me for rejecting me. Now I can look at these situations and recognize that I did not have the common skills of reading expressions or feeling the atmosphere of a room. I can see that it was not a willful act on either my part or those around me that isolated me. There is still a disconnect, but now it is an gap in my personality that I can hope to overcome with effort and thought.
