Steve's Story
UPDATE - February, 2024: Well, plans change! I retired from Wells Fargo in San Francisco in August, 2019. When COVID-19 arrived, we stayed in the Bay Area for a couple of years, then moved to Penn Valley, CA. Our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids now live in Montana, and we visit often. We live on one acre in the foothills, and keep busy with outdoor projects, music and art.
In September, 2023, I became a volunteer broadcaster on community radio KVMR-FM in Nevada City (KVMR.org). I'm on the air on alternating Saturday mornings from 5-7 AM, plus some fill-in work. Having a blast - retirement is good!
(2008 Update)
Life After Pleasant Valley High School, I went on to attend Chico State and eventually completed my B.A. in Journalism, along with spending a lot of time skydiving up at Corning.
I've been working on the check processing side of the banking industry for (gulp!) over 36 years now. I started working for Wells Fargo Bank part-time in Chico as a senior at PV. I spent over 13 years with Wells Fargo in operations, went to The Bank of California for 10 years, and have been back with Wells in San Francisco for 12 years as a Product Manager in Wholesale Banking. Somewhere in the middle of all that, I graduated from the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington in Seattle, a three-year executive program. My career path at Wells included stops in Sacramento, Lafayette and San Jose on the way to San Francisco. I've been commuting by BART train to S.F. for longer than I care to remember. Now with high-speed Internet and phone connection, I can work from our home office one or two days a week ...Expand for more
and skip the commute. That helps! I've been fortunate enough to do some traveling for business, but not too much. New York City, Seattle, Nashville, Mexico City, Toronto and Anchorage have been some of my favorite stops.
Marylynne and I have been married for 27 years. We live in Pleasant Hill, CA, in the East Bay area and have a 21-year-old daughter, Katy. Katy moved out for a semester after high school, and is back living with us in Pleasant Hill, working part-time at a hardware store.
Our family has really gotten into horses over the past few years. We now have four or five of the critters (it depends on the day). Katy barrel races and does team penning for fun, and also had a summer job as a horse wrangler at a dude ranch in Montana. Marylynne has her own business working as a farrier (hoof trimmer & horseshoer) and takes care of over 200 horses across several counties.
In spare time, we enjoy our three dogs, horseback riding, camping and spending time at our property in Montana. I still play the guitar once in awhile and also enjoy photography, two hobbies that date back to high school.
I spent a lot of time visiting in Chico this year (2008), taking care of my Mom prior to her passing on in late November. We will be back often through early 2009 to finish packing up and selling her place.
We've lived in the Bay Area since the early '80's, but we're working on a three-year plan to move to Montana, build a little horse ranch near Helena and retire from the Bay Area rat race. The stock market and housing market may delay our departure, but that's where we're headed!
That's my story -- what's yours?
