Steve's Story

Life I have lived in five states, Louisiana, Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, and a brief stay in Texas. With the exception of my stint in Dallas, all of my adult life has been in the greater St. Louis area, primarily University City. Since high school I have had several professions, I once fancied myself as a mechanic and auto body repairman, later became a Pricing/Cost Analyst, a Computer Programmer/Analyst (mainframe COBOL), and have made a transition into being a Dot Net Application Developer. In 2016, at age 62, I married my partner of then seven years. My main regrets in life are that I wasn't able to allow myself to be who I am or so long and that I never was able to adopt children. In the past there was so much bias against single men as adoptive parents. Although at our age we would not adopt an infant, I still hold out some hope that we may be able to adopt a child from the Philippines, which is my spouse's native country. Sometimes we never envision our lives turning out as they do and yet the do turn out that way. Never could I have imagined back in 1965 when my parents bought our family home, that 52 years later I would be living there once again. My spouse and I lived here with my elderly widowed father until he passed away in June of 2018. My mother passed away in 2011. Now it just the two of us and our four-legge...Expand for more
d "children" (kitty cats). I guess I have experienced good and bad things in life. I try to remember the good and keep my faith that in the fullness of time that which was wrong will be made right. One stabilizing force in my life has always been the church I started attending shortly after my family moved to the St. Louis area. Much has changed since then, even the church in some ways, but I have some very strong ties there. Faith has brought me through some rough times. Okay for those who have not seen me since 1977 and are not quite sure who I am, you might me by my birth name Stan. I hated it and legally changed it in 1977. Best thing I ever did to improve my self esteem. Peace. School I went to nursery school somewhere in Decatur, GA, not a clue as to the name of the school. I went to a private kindergarten at Patillo Memorial Methodist Church in Decatur and started first grade at Oakhurst School in the fall of 1960. In the summer of 1963, my family moved to Lawrence, Kansas where I attended fourth and fifth grades at Centennial School. In 1965 my family moved to St. Louis, Missouri (some call it Misery) where I have lived the majority of my life since then. I went to Blackberry Lane Elementary School for one year, sixth grade, and on to Brittany Junior High School, and University City High School, graduating in 1972.
