Life After nearly 30 years in newspapers and 35 in journalism, I decided I'd rather watch the newspaper industry implode from someplace on the outside and joined the University of Washington as Director of Communications for the School of Dentistry on Sept. 25, 2008. In 2007, Sandra and I moved to Seattle from Dallas after I took a buyout from the Dallas Morning News to join the Seattle Times news desk. We still enjoy our lifestyle of caffeine and mildew, and enjoy taking sightseeing trips to the grocery. (This is true: You get to see mountains along the way.) My Spouse I met Sandra at work in 1989. I offered her a doughnut and she was mine. (Actually, I invited her over to dinner and then my house burned down a week later. She was impressed, but the house was a little overdone.) My Pets Just before Thanksgiving 2003, we lost Pooch, a Lab-Doberman mix with a a dog IQ around 300, to a brain tumor. He was The Official World's Greatest Dog of All Time. The next March, we adopted Pippin, a mix of pit bull, German shepherd, chow and Peter Sellers. She is amazingly vocal, conveying through a series of barks, grunts and sighs a message that we believe is: "Why do dogs' names in this family always...Expand for more
