Steve's Story
Life
Man where do I startÂ
? Ok so here goes nothing.
After H.S. I worked in a bunch of different fields. I did construction, I worked as a cook, some of you may remember me working in Willow Grove Mall as a Security Officer. Heck I even volunteered as an EMT at the Second Alarmers Rescue Squad.
I had moved out of the area and lived in Chalfont for a while. While working in a pizza shop it hit me one day that I had to do something with my life and I have been on a mission ever since. I went to school computers and received my Associates Degree in 1995. Just before graduation I landed a job at ASPLUNDH (orange trucks with big black letters) in their corporate headquarters as the Help Desk Administrator. ThatÂs where things really took off.
While working at ASPLUNDH I came across a flyer for the Navy Reserves and figured it would be a good thing for me to do. So I joined and it was probably one of the best decisions I ever made. I have been in the IT field now for the better part of 12 years and in the Navy Reserves for 10 Years.
While progressing my career I have been afforded the opportunity to travel all over the country and around the world.
My military career has been crazy! I thought HmmÂ
I join the Navy where they have warm beds an...Expand for more
d hot meals. No such luck! I was stationed with a land based unit out of Fort Dix NJ. I ate MRE's (meals ready to eat) slept in tents and carried an M16 regularly.
I got married in May of 2002 and while on my Honey Moon, in Mexico received a call that my unit was being mobilized and I needed to report as soon as I returned to the country. So upon return I was shipped off to Guantanamo Bay Cuba where I spent the better part of a year. I returned home in early 2003 and landed a job with Lockheed Martin which required me to relocate to the Northern Virginia area where I currently reside. Later that same year after relocating my unit sent me off to Sniper School (that should have been my first clue to transfer out).
In January of 2004 my son was born and a few months later I got the call again to be mobilized. Only this time we were headed off to the land of the sand (Kuwait and Iraq).
I made it through the deployment and returned in May of 2005. I am still employed with Lockheed as a Sr. Systems engineer and still travel around the world at the request of my customer.
I am still in the Navy although I have switched units and now work at the Pentagon (very boring but much safer).
Drop me a line I would love to hear from you folks.
