Steven's Story

Life I guess losing my mother and older brother within six months of each other has taught me that we just don't have a whole lot of time on this planet, so you better make the most of the time you do have. My goal right now is to put myself in the best possible position to be where I want, doing what I want, for as long as I can, before I go; hopefully, somewhere along the way, I will be able to add the statement "with whom I want". School I think it would be fair to say that I wasn't one of the "popular" students, but I feel that because of that fact, I didn't have to put up a front, allowing me to get to know and appreciate people for who they were and the outstanding qualities they posessed, and not for some superficial reason. I believe EVERYONE has something to contribute to society, and besides, all those things that seemed so important when we were young, just don't seem to be as important now. College College was much like military schools were - alot of information in a VERY SHORT time! I completed my associates degree in 11 months with a 3.96 GPA, making me MAGNA CUM LAUDE, or A SMART ASS!....those that truly know me would tend to agree. The thing I really enjoyed the most was the opportunity I got to tutor several students, and I think that my 3 years of instructor duty in the Navy set me up to help alot of people. Workplace My first job was doing lawns with my friends, so I started a good work ethic early...Expand for more
. From 16 thru high school graduation, I worked as a bowling alley mechanic full time, as well as going to school;I can't think of a more enjoyable job to have as a teenager. After high school, I joined the navy, and spent 20 years in; wow, the places I got to see and the people I got to meet - a once-in-a-lifetime experience My most rewarding job was with American Woodmark, which I was deeply involved in the start-up of a new plant; we started up on time, fully trained, and safely - during my time as the Safety, Environmental, and Training Coordinator, we never had a lost-time accident; in short, everyone went ahome with all of the fingers and toes that they came in with! Military I remember when I graduated avionics school, I was suppose to get 2 weeks leave, but my next school was starting in 10 days, so I went to see my detailer; he told me that he could get me new orders, but he wouldn't be able to GUARANTEE that I would go to NAS Miramar (same base as TopGun), so I kept the orders I had - little did I know what an impact that would have on my life! I was able to serve in the greatest community that the navy has to offer - that of the aviation community, working on the sophisticated avionics in the E-2C Hawkeye. To every sailor, Chief Petty Officer, Officer, and civilian contractor that I was fortunate enough to come in contact with, I say thank you for serving with me, and "a job well done" by each and every one of you!
