Steven's Story
Life
Hey there, thanks for stopping by. What I've been up to over the last few years, well let's see. I've attened more community colleges than I'd ever like to admit. I've worked at every sort of job you can think of. Several radio and TV jobs, worked in retail for 6 years, was an EMT on a volunteer basis for a few years and for the past 25 years been working in the hospitality industry.
I've traveled across the "pond" twice to Europe, visited 10 countries in both eastern and western Europe. Eastern Europe is my favorite. I have friends on 4 continents.
I've been in love and broken some hearts and of course had mine broken as well. Haven't we all?
Love the outdoors, hiking, whitewater rafting, snow skiing, etc. I lived in western NC for about 17 years but currently in Chapel Hill. I sure miss those mountains.
Currently I'm a Task Force Manager for a hospitality company based in Wilmington. I'm always on the road traveling to our 18 properties.
From 2004 to 2012 I broadcasted Western Carolina womens basketball on the Catamount Sports Network. What a ride!

School
Well school started out for me in Asheville, NC at Charles C. Bell Elem. I attended thru 2nd grade, then it was the word all kids hate to hear. Dad's getting transfered, we're moving.
Well off to Whiteville we went. Edgewood Elem. new school, new classmates, new town, new everything. I made friends quickly and before long, I felt right at home.
Three years there, and off to Central Middle. Being in the band for the first time. What fun. The drum was my choice of instrument and I was pretty good. Seventh grade, band director changed and the new one let the 7th graders march. I must be in heaven. Well 8th grade passed and time to join the Wolfpack.
Whiteville High, what great memories for me. I miss football friday nights, marching halftime on the field, and getting thrown out of Thomas McLams holiday parties. I think my count is up to 3, or is it 4? Well high school was soon over and off to college I went...
College
Where to begin, where to begin? Well out of high school I attended Western Carolina University for 3 semesters. Why WCU? It was the furthest in-state away from home. Starting in 1994 ...Expand for more
I went to good ol' SCC for a year and a half.
Finally decided that I was wasting my time there and headed to Wilkes Comm. College in Wilkesboro, NC to study Radio & TV in the fall of 1995. Two years later, and a degree in hand, I headed back to western NC to try WCU again.
The first fall I just worked and took one class at the local community college, also SCC(Southwestern). Then in the spring it was back to Cullowhee and WCU. Taking classes fulltime and working part-time life was tough and with just 6 classes left, I withdrew in spring of 2001 to work full time and pay off some inflated bills.
Will I return and finish? Hopefully. But now, eight years later, I keep saying someday.
Workplace
Let's see...Burger King(check), Lowe's (check), Wal-Mart(check), jobs I never want to do again(Big Fat Check).
Upon leaving WCU in '01, got a job at the Holiday Inn Cherokee. Worked their for 3 years, during that time also worked part-time at the Hampton Inn. After Holiday Inn, it was a move across town to the Fairfield Inn & Suites being Front Desk Manager. 2.5 years later, back across town for my second stint at the Hampton Inn, this time though I'm the boss. That's right General Manager. I always thought I'd be a GM someday, but of a radio station, not a hotel. Is that ironic? Well the GM thing didn't really work out so after 10 months, I became the Assistant GM at the Microtel, also in Cherokee. Well I was about tired of working on the Reservation, so in April '08, I left Cherokee after seven years in franchise hotels and became the Front Office Manager at The Swag Country Inn. I worked at The Swag for 3+ years moving up to the position of Assistant Innkeeper. Unfortunately The Swag and I recently parted ways.
Other than my fulltime position at the hotel business, I also worked with WCU athletics as PA Announcer for Catamount Soccer and Catamount Volleyball, and also announcer/producer for WCU womens basketball. I miss that.
Got married in '08, divorced in '13. Remarried in '22, this time with three adult step-kids. The two boy JV and Jo Lo live in Dubai and The Philippines respectively and Gaby lives with Vail and I. She's a sophomore in college and will attend UNC Chapel Hill starting this fall.
