Steven's Story
Life Updated 2017
My Spouse
I married Karen Karney (class of 75) in April of 78, we met in school (Horseheads, NY) after my family moved from Needham, Mass.
Still married, 46 years next year, 2024!
My Pets
Actually my wife and daughter have a cat that I kinda like too. Unfortunately BC died just before Christmas 2003, she lived for 18 years. We now have two cats, Kitty Carlisle, and Gaby. Well we had to put Gaby down last month, she had stopped eating and drinking and was in pain, she was around 17 years old and we had her since 2004 or 2005, she was a rescue.
No change here.
My Kids
Andrea is now 38 and working full time at Ashford Pain Solutions. Matt is now 42 and a graduate of the University of Ga. Matt was married on Jan.15,2005. He received his MBA from Kennesaw State in 2012. Matt and his wife Jackie gave us our first Grandchild on Feb. 5th, 2007. Her name is Abigail Elizabeth. On Feb. 24th, 2008, Matt & Jackie gave us our second grandchild, Bryant Matthew. And on November 17th 2012 we were introduced to Landon Timothy Dibling, Next came Hudson Charles on Dec. 4th, 2014. Currently they are in the process of adopting a baby girl from China.
And since this last update we have welcomed Olivia Kate into the family, all the way from China, she is a Blessing to us all!
My Job
I have worked for McLANE Southeast, a grocery distribution Co. for the past 40+ years. After 20+ years on the sales, service, and travel end of McLANE Company, I made the move to the Transportation Department as a dispatcher/driver supervisor. it is great being home every night, I loved what I was doing, I had a great boss, but the traveling got to me. I missed too much of our children's growing up years, and did not want to miss out on our grandchildren's growing years.
On June 9th 2023 I retired from McLANE Southe...Expand for more
ast, I honestly felt as nervous walking into the luncheon they had for me as I was on my first day, 14,816 days later. 40 years, 6 months and 25 days. I made long lasting friends over the years.
Heath,
I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia in 1992, 31 year survivor (and counting)!
Then there was the skin cancer, over the course of 5 or so years I had 4 Mohs surgeries including radiation treatment on my skull. I believe we finally got it taken care of, ended up up with a bald spot on the side of my head, but hey, it could be worse!
Then Covid showed up, yep I was lucky enough to get The Covid, Got to spend 5 days in the hospital, they sent me home too soon, 3 days later, I was back, but this time I was able to have Karen visit me. I was actually Blessed to have had Covid, part of the follow up with the Pulmonologist was a lung scan a year later. In that scan they saw a spot that wasn't there before. so after the biopsy it was determined to be lung cancer.
December 27th 2021 I went in for a lobectomy of the lower lobe of my right lung. things were getting back to normal, Until, I had to go back about a month later to repair a incisional hernia on the back of my ribs.
So how many people do you know that can truly say Covid saved their life??? No Covid, no chest X-Rays or lung scans, no scans, no early detection. God only knows how much bigger the cancer would have become before it became symptomatic? God has been very good to me, and it may be my own fault, I remember telling my doctor a long time ago, "I don't care what you tell me I have, as long as you can treat it! Well so far so good, I am also blessed to have the best personal care giver in Karen, Andrea, Matt, Jackie. and their crew!
I have also learned that no matter what I/We are going through, someone else has it worse!
