Steven's Story
I am living in Australia and have been so for about 14 years now. Lived in Boston, London, Paris, and Scotland for a few years before life brought me here.
Love this place, the land mass is about the same as the USA and there are only about 22 Million people! Until recently I lived in a cottage overlooking 100 acres of rolling green hills that led to an escarpment above a green tree lined version of the Grand Canyon yet I'm only 1.5 hours from Sydney, about 2 hours from Canberra (the Capital) and about 50 minutes from a place called Wollongong which is a small city on the coast!
My business life is split between consulting to a couple of the USA multinational software giants, operating my own little software and website development business (go to peacockdigital.com.au), and escorting or arranging Motorcycle Tours around Australia and writing about it (go to TwoWheelTouring.com.au to see the website in development).
Any motorcyclists out there interested in checking out Australia are welcome to sign up!
Late last year I rode a number of trips through the Top End of Australia, down the centre, and around the south coast. Did about 25,000 KM's worth of touri...Expand for more
ng and photo's. I've ridden 3 or 400,000 KM's since I've been here so watch the Two Wheel Touring website for more info and pics as I develop the site further.
When not traveling I present a Jazz Radio program called 'A New Yorker Down Under' (newyorkerdownunder.com) that airs in the greater southern Sydney region.
It seems the older I get the busier I get! Funny I had always thought I would be slowing down at this point of my life! The lifestyle, society and economy here are conducive to getting involved in may things. The weather is typically good and there is relatively little 'struggle' that goes along with crime, greed, pollution, a bad economy and party politics! My energy is spent on positive stuff.
Life is grand but the price has been leaving family, friends and all that is familiar so would be great to hear from people from the past.
Australia is a good place to live or visit. It has yet to become too out of balance (unlike the US perhaps). Miss home friends and music in NYC however so I try to get home a much as possible. Anyone interested in saying hello please do, my eMail addresses are on any of the sites mentioned above.
Bye for now.
Steven
