It was worse at home. I just got some patches, I'm going to toss them and buy some cigarettes. There's nothing worse than smoke in night photography. Clouds I can work with if there's breaks..
Just a quiet glow, no smoke tonight. All things considered, if that cme hits tonight it could get real good, real fast. 3 seconds, iso 3200
Not yet, just a forecast. There's a little activity at the moment but no impact, still looks like tomorrow.
Impact, boom, we got run over. This is the highest I've seen on this particular graph. Wait and see what we have tonight. It bumped the solar wind speed up another 540,000 mph. They pretty much nailed this one and that
This stuff is rare, don't miss it.
Moon 11% illuminated isn't an issue, clear sky, K9, doesn't get any better. I've never taken any shots at K9. Should become visible before dark after the sun has set. Aquarids and Lyrids are active out of the east.
These
Numbers real similar to this, don't remember the year, last solar cycle, I was on Sherman and the entire sky was red, the snow was red, aurora's in every direction.
These numbers are current as of 12:45 pm
Earth grazer from 2013, these are a late night, early morning thing. Debris from Halley's comet.

American Meteor Society:
"Eta Aquariids in 2024 will peak on May 5th

The eta Aquariids are active from April 16 through May

Unless it's something full blown, obvious, how do you tell there's an aurora in progress? You have light on the horizon, but it could be clouds reflecting light. So I set the iso on the camera at it's max, 25,000 on mine
It had already faded a bit by the time I was ready, it didn't last long and it clouded over. 12:11am so I think that qualifies as a 4th of July aurora. :)

65 miles makes a difference. Down here I could barely see them, low on the horizon, and they didn't last long.
