Steven's Story
Life
I entered the computer field in 1976, but left in 1980 because it was so boring at that time. I re-entered it at the City of KCMO in 1986 and stayed there until 1997, when I moved to the Denver area. I finally went from contractor work at IBM to a regular in 2000. I married Kanyawan Wiritachai in 1998 and we now have two sons, Nick (2000) and Ray (2002). Having two small children takes up a lot of my time. Nick is a Bear cub scout and Ray is a Tiger cub scout. I am Ray's Den Leader. I have an older brother Doug who lives in Lenexa Kansas with his wife, Pam. My eldest brother David died in 1981. My parents are still living, having their 60th anniversary in 2008. My life's goal is to figure out how to use my lawn edger properly and keep the fence in the backyard from blowing down.
I learned this year that my natural paternal grandfather was named Michaels, not Shipe. The family came to Morgan County, Missouri from Cambria County, Pennsylvania, originating in Cardiganshire (now Ceredigion), Wales. The family tree goes Steve Shipe 1953, son of John J Michaels 1927, son of Roy Michaels 1896-1971, son of Robert E Michaels 1871-1902, son of ...Expand for more
Evan J Michaels 1843-1916, son of Thomas Michael 1805-1883, son of John Michael 1781-1814. Thomas' wife's obit mentioned that he died from being gored by an enraged bull. I guess you have to really choose your battles carefully, as the saying goes. You can tell there were some hard times as many died around 30 years of age. There is no one famous, although Robert Michaels' brother Oscar Lewis Michaels was the manager of Western Union in Colo Spgs around the turn of the century for several decades. Another brother William H Michaels died aged 30 in Colo Spgs, and his twin daughter Florence married Frank Groesbeck Young in Salt Lake City about 1926. Frank was a direct paternal descendant of Phineas Young, Brigham Young's elder brother who introduced him to the Book of Mormon.
I now have some living relatives, besides the ones I already knew about. The Shipe name is from a stepfather whose line died out when he did in 1938.
