At 19 I dropped out of college, then married a year later and moved to Door County. Several years later and with two children, Penny and Patrick, my husband and I bought an old store building. I ran a convenience store while my husband worked a construction job. Since I had time on my hands, I worked toward a college degree through correspondence with UW-Madison. The last year of college had to be completed on campus, so I attended UW-Milwaukee during the last two summers and graduated with a degree in engineering in 1980.
