Susan's Story

I've been married to Dennis Marth since August of '84, we have 3 children between us, Josh from my previous marriage and Ed and Heidi from his. After getting married, we built our first home in Deep River and kept that home until 1992. Dennis and Josh and I moved to Taichung, Taiwan for a one year gig in 1990 and we all loved the experience! Finding work in CT was difficult at best after moving back and Dennis was made an offer in Miami FL so we put the house on the market and moved to Homestead FL in Dec. '91. Enjoyed everything about it until August of '92 when we were hit by Hurricaine Andrew. Spent 30 minutes in the eye of the storm - fortunately our house was a sound structure and most of our damage was caused by the humidity and no AC until October. We remodled and relandscaped and never had to miss our out-of-state friends and family, our house was well and often visited. Heidi joined us in FL in the spring of '93 and within a couple of years met the man she was to marry and have 3 beautiful children with. Dennis's itchy feet moved us to the Winston-Salem area in 1997 and then in 2000, to Wareham MA. A few years later he was transferred to Charlotte, NC and we lived in Lake Wylie, SC until August of '08 when again a transfer relocated us ...Expand for more
to Shanghai, China. Our kids are all grown, we are very proud parents and miss them dearly. China is an interesting place, however, not speaking Mandarin can make things difficult or amusing, it evens out! ;) I have been to Hong Kong twice since we've been here - another amazing city, beautiful from "The Peak" where an ancient tram goes to the highest point and there are views of the entire city, amazing and beautiful both day and night, (Google it ;) Over the years we've taken trips to England, Scotland, Nova Scotia, Mexico, Grand Cayman Island, Jamaica and the Bahamas. Also back and forth across the US and up and down as well. We do enjoy travelling, moving, well, each time we move we say this is the last time, up until a couple of moves ago - we know better now! When we return from China we plan to retire somewhere on the east coast, perhaps build on our property on Cape Cod, or maybe down in Marathon FL. or someplace inbetween. Dennis always says he wants a place to retire where all he has to mow is the crabgrass. I'm happy where he's happy!
