Susan's Story

Life After high school I attended UT but did not graduate. Instead, I became "Suzi Sailor" on WATE TV in Knoxville for several years before moving to Philadelphia. I married, had a son and divorced in Knoxville before I moved to Philly. In Philadelphia, I graduated from Lawrence Finishing School and John Robert Powers Modeling School and became a professional model; I was a model for Maybelline and had small parts in a couple of movies. This would surprise most of my classmates (except for close friends) who would probably have classified me as mousy and kind of a non-entity. I went on to a career in real estate sales ending that career as general and sales manager of a large real estate company in the Houston area. After the loss of a child (my second son, age 13) in 1993, I hibernated for awhile and then started over, attending classes and learning the building business by the seat of my pants (literally). I designed and built one-of-a-kind custom homes for a select clientele in the Houston suburbs. I became the first female President of the Montgomery County (Texas) Builders' Association and am listed in "Who's Who in Executives and Professionals" in 1998 and 1999. My husband of nearly 19 years and I retired in 2004 and now enjoy traveling and volunteering in our leisure time. Our most exciting trip was three months touring 8 countries of Asia and Micronesia plus Australia and New Zealand ending with our trip smuggling Bibles into China. We spent some time in Indonesia working in refugee camps as relief aid workers after the tsunami disaster in 2005. I have one son (living) and four wonderful step children and their families including 7 1/2 fabulous grandchildren. My husband plays the tenor saxophone and I play the harp. We are both very involved in our church where we are directors of Angel Food Ministries. School I don't think my biggest crush would appreciate being named here. Suffice it to say I did have one. I was most inspired by my English teacher, Mrs. Mary Ella Smith and I truly wish I could talk with her today if she is still livi...Expand for more
ng. The only thing I would do over is have more fun and be and more sensitive to others. My high school years were not particularly fun or crazy or memorable although I made a few very good friends, several of whom I have been able to locate (or have located me) thru Classmates.com. I wish all of you would post pictures and update all of your profiles and favorites. It's so much fun reading about what you are doing now. College I attended UT for several semesters before marrying and beginning my career as Suzi Sailor on WATE. Over the years, I have probably accumulated enough credits to obtain a degree in something but that is no longer important to me. If I had it to do over, I would have stayed in school and finished undergraduate and graduate degrees. Workplace I worked a little during college mostly in retail. When I auditioned and was selected for the TV show with WATE, I knew I had found my niche. After WATE, I moved to Delaware and graduated from Lawrence Finishing School and John Robert Powers Modeling School and had a mediocre career in modeling and acting. I did a lot of live theater in the Philadelphia area and absolutely loved it. But when I finally got serious about working, I began a career in real estate which lasted many years. Over the years, I went from real estate secretary, to salesperson to broker and became general manager of a Century 21 franchise in the Kingwood, Texas area. After the death of my youngest child, I started a new career as a custom home designer and builder and retired completely in 2004. Now I work more than ever in foreign and domestic missions and disaster relief beside my husband of 19 years. Military Believe it or not I actually considered joining the military after high school since my dad refused to pay for my college education. I passed the tests to join the Air Force and intended to go to nursing school on their nickel. Unfortunately, I was too young to sign myself in (17) and my dad refused to sign the papers. By the time I would have been old enough, I had started at UT and lost interest.

We attended this elegant event last night! It was a fund-raiser for a very worthy cause - housing and rehabilitating young girls who were victims of human trafficking😢
We had the rare opportunity to spend some time with Chuck’s oldest living relative (95 years young), Aunt Barbara Yost, in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida! Such a treat to hear her tell stories of Chuck and his mom and other fami
