Susan's Story

Life Since I retired from 31 years of teaching English and Drama I have immersed myself in an old love: teaching! I've taught Summer school, night school and am now back teaching half-time at Northern Secondary school, where my own two daughters graduated from a few years ago. I've also indulged some of my other passions: writing and acting, theatre and film society subscriptions, gardening my little city patch of dirt, and walking my wonderful dog Bowie. My two daughters have grown up and graduated from university, although one is still studying vet.medicine at OVC Guelph. My other daughter lives downtown and is a fledgling actor/director in the Toronto Theatre scene. My husband, Bob, is a Peace Officer in Scarborough. This fall I am looking for supply teaching work in the neighbourhood, swimming and working out, writing in my little writer's shed at the bottom of the garden. I still live in the North Toronto environs, where I did most of my growing up. Seeing all of the landmarks of my childhood, the same place where I raised my daughters, makes me mindful of the past in every moment. I think I am nostalgic for life even as i live it. ying, though we sing in our chains like the sea.(paraphrasing Dylan Thomas.) I'm happy to hear from former classmates, colleagues and students from all the schools where I attended or taught. I especially would like to hear from my long-ago friends at Stouffville D.H. Do any of you remember me? My happiest times were spent riding the school bus , going on hay-rides, skating on frozen ponds. I left SDHS after gr. 10 to join a theatre company in Jacksons' Point. My life changed "dramatically" after that- but I have fond memories of those Tom Sawyer-ish days on the Ninth Concession at Vivian Sideroad. I would love to hear from Herb Otto, Karen Hamilton, Gale Grose, Norman Mowder- and many others. What happened to you all? I attended Simcoe Composite School for only one year: 1963-4. Again, fond memories of my classmates there, although my life there was fraught with family difficulties. Does anyone remember Mrs. Files? I would love to hear from old friends N. Wayne Smith, John Jacques, Rudy Halmo, Karen Ohland, Peter Ramsay. Most of all I would love to hear from former Actsmen, who remember happy times on the Applewood stage. What did you do with your lives? Susan
