Susan's Story

I was a very shy girl in high school and I didn't have many friends. Most of the kids that I knew lived on Medland Street. I had older brothers, an older sister and a younger sister. I lived in the Junction and moved to the east end of Toronto after I started a job at Traders Group which was downtown on Bloor Street. I met my husband during the summer of 1970 and we married in 1973. We moved to Nova Scotia in the fall of 1974 and I am still here. We have returned to Toronto and Barrie several times over the years to visit family and friends. I still get home sick from time to time and I think about growing up in the Junction. Scotia I had a difficult time finding a job that paid as well as the job I had in Toronto. After a few years I was hired by the Halifax City Police as a clerk typist. After a few years there I was hired as a clerk typist at the RCMP Halifax Headquarters. In 1985 we were blessed with our one and only son. During our life here in Nova Scotia I learned how to downhill ski, scuba dive and started Tae Kwon Do with my son and husband. My job with the RCMP was wonderful but I had to retire early due to a motor vehicle accident that was caused by a drunk driver. I have changed over the years and the one thing that I can say for sure is that I am no longer shy.
