Susan's Story
I enjoyed the 70's, the 80's, lived a little, was a professional student for awhile, and by 1985 after getting it 'out of my system', got serious about growing up and getting a career I could live with and prosper from. Graduated as a Physician Assistant in 1987 following pre-med coursework, and have been practicing as a PA for nearly 23 years. Initially was in CardioThoracic surgery, then internal medicine/geriatrics, and currently practice in Emergency Medicine and Trauma. Have done that for the last 15 years. I have been post-graduate trained in Geriatrics and Emergency Medicine/Trauma, and LOVE what I do! I reside in Kansas where there are more midlevel providers than doctors, and the laws are very lenient, encouraging autonomous practice by PAs. And, its a great place to live and play!!! I currently am an ER provider in 3 emergency departments in and around Kansas City, have my own medical clinic 3 days a week, and am also an administrator at the smallest of my rural critical ac...Expand for more
cess hospitals in between time. I am finishing my MBA in Hospital Adminstration, at Washburn University in Topeka, and plan to be a hospital CEO by age 53, pulling together my 30+ years of clinical medicine experience and 20 years of management/administrative experience. For fun, I SLEEP ( :D ), and also love to travel, flying at least three to four times per month, sometimes more. Love to visit family in Ohio, gamble in Las Vegas AND in Kansas, and in the summer visit New England and ANY beach. I have a lot of responsibility in my work life, so when the day is over, I am 25 years old all over again! Still feel in my 20's, and have been blessed with good health, strength and determination. Lost both of my parents by age 42, so am just about the oldest surviving member of the Quirk family, and that is an odd feeling!! Looking forward to working full-time to approx. age 60, then semi-retiring to finish travelling to all the places on my 'bucket list'. Life is good, and I am thankful.
