Susan's Story

Life I have been married to my husband, Rick, for 25 years. We have three children--grown now. Our daughters blessed us with three granddaughters and a grandson. We love them to pieces--to hear their laughter is precious. Our son is still single, looking for the right woman. We have lived in Florida for 22 years. It was great while the kids were young, spent a lot of time at the beach and just loving the outdoors. We survived through a major hurricane in 2004 while many of our neighbors homes were destroyed. Our family became much closer because of that event. Our oldest daughter and her little one lived in a FEMA trailer in our front yard for 18 months. I have driven a school bus, and many-a-kid crazy in the last 18 years. Of course, they have been working on me too--really loved the job for the longest time. I still enjoy it, but would love to get out before I become burnt out. I always saw myself as just being a mom, not really wanting to work. But reality set in and I just took what was workable with the kids schedule and mine. Whenever they were off of school, so was I. We are planning a move to Tennessee in the near future--as soon as we can sell our home here. Is anyone interested?? We have been looking in the general area of Knoxville. The Smokies are gorgeous, would love to live there. I really miss the change of seasons, Autumn was always my favorite time of year. Don't miss the mess of snow, but wouldn't mind seeing it again. The ''v...Expand for more
alley cruises'' were always fun, can't do that here in Florida! I took a trip with a few friends to Texas about 10 years ago and looked up my old sweetheart. He looked like he had only been out of school for a couple years..WOW. We had a great time reminiscing and he reminded me of some of the good times we spent together. I always wanted to meet up with him one more time, to do just that. We were blessed to have been given that opportunity because he just passed away a few years ago. A chopper?? Wish I had one to ride, with the way gas prices are. We do go to Daytona during Bike Week--love seeing all the ''sights.'' Always a nice weekend get-away. My parents have been gone for many years now and I miss them dearly. My mom passed away one month before my oldest daughter was born. I never got to truly develop a mother- daughter relationship with my mom. I have been blessed with wonderful relationships with both of my daughters, we are very close. I was always the apple of my dad's eye--we were close too. He was my hero for so many reasons. My children were all close to him-he lived with us for several years. They reminisce about him the way I talk about my grandparents. I hope that our grandchildren can recall as many good memories of us. I just watched my grandson, who is 3 sit next to his Poppa today, put his arm around him and said ever-so-innocently "Poppa, you are the best." I saw how it touched my husband's heart by the look on his face.
