Susan's Story
Life
BULA from Fiji! I am still a professional writer, and mainly author travel related articles for magazines and publications int the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the Pacific, with several articles running in scuba dive specific publications. I live on an outer island in the Fiji Islands (fly to Hawaii, and keep going west - if you get to Australia, you've gone too far). To keep me out of trouble, I own/manage/run the show for my own travel wholesale company, Fiji Adventures, which brings hundreds of people from around the globe to our little corner of paradise.
Still married to Brad de Geus (BHS class 71), who is general manager of a resort here in Fiji. I have two children, Melanie (20) who is in Laguna Beach and studying fashion design after graduation from high school in Fiji, and Jordan (14) still here with us in Fiji and digging surfing, diving, kayaking and doing his high school on line (and definitely in that order).
Certainly loving life in the southern hemisphere. The stars, the sunsets, the tropics, the ocean, the islands, the reefs, the rainforest, great diving and snorkeling - who could ask for anything more?
Visit the U.S. and Ridgecrest about once a year, to get my fill of Mexican food, clothing shopping, Walmart and all things "civilized" - yes, Virginia they have a McDonalds even in Fiji!

island of Fiji (which is being sold as we speak) and a home here on the resort, and are building another. The resort is very pristine, and best of all, has it's own spa so I get pampered whenever I want. It's a pretty cool lifestyle. We'd love to have you visit - the scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing is unparallelled!
Workplace
Started out, after college (Cal Poly U, Pomona), as a copywriter for Miller's Outpost. Then moved on to freelance advertising writing, then to journalism (my true calling) where I started at the old DailyIndependent as a Lifestyle reporter and columnist, to become the Lifestyle/Religion/Food Editor and theater critic. Went to work with Brad de Geus (my husband) in his office managing his chiropractic office (ugh - not my bag), but still kept up writing. Moved to Fiji in 1997 and started Fiji Adventures, a tour/travel company which brings people to Fiji on different kinds of itineraries which we created: scuba diving, snorkeling, adventure activities, cultural exchanges, honeymoons & weddings, surfing, gamefishing - well, you name it.
My writing consists mainly of travel related articles for magazines and newspapers - mostly in the US and Australia/New Zealand, but also in Asia and throughout the South Pacific. And advertising/marketing/website copy for my own company, plus a few others as well. Trying to stay out of trouble!
