Susan's Story

Hi All, After graduation I attended college in Maryland (Mount St. Agnes College/Loyola University)and became a Biology Teacher at a HS in MD. I met my husband Tom at Annapolis on a blind date while in college , - he said he was blind! We lived in Windsor Locks, Conn, while he was at submarine school and then we were sent to Newport News, VA to the ship yards for about a year. Our daughter Alicia was born there in 1970 and then the Navy sent us to Charleston SC for 4 years while he cruised around under the ocean. After Tom served his 5 years, we moved to NJ and lived in Leonardo for 4 years and then Holmdel for 7 years while Tom commuted to a job on Wall Street. Our second daughter Erica arrived in 1974. We lived in NJ until 1984 when we transferred with Tom's company to the Minneapolis area, where we have remained for the past 25 years. I returned to work in 1985 as the Career Center Program Manager for the local HS and continued there until 1997. Real Estate had always intrigued me( what was I thinking !!)and I started my Real Estate Career with Coldwell Banker soon after. My husband joined me after his company was bought out in 2000. We have enjoyed working together " most of the time"! One of our sons-in-law, Troy, has joined us in the business about 4 years ago and we really appreciate all that he brings to the table. r daughter Alicia studied abroad in Madrid while at Bucknell U. and fell in love with a Spanish architect while there. She finished at Bucknell and immediately left for Spain. Except for her wedding and yearly vacations, she remains there to this day with our 6 year old twin grand daughters Raquel and Sofia. They are the light of our lives and are beginning to challenge us since they are bilingual and can wisper in Spanish when they want to be secretive. I have gradually picked up some of the language but would be in trouble if left on my own! Fortunately the kids learned English first so they have no trouble communicating and speak like an American! Tom and I visit there every January when our business is slow ( we should have just stayed there this year!), and they come to the states during the month of August. Our daughter Erica is 34 and is the Director of Compensation for Ingenix , a division of United Health Group. She and her husband Troy live in the area and we are blessed that at least one of the kids stayed in the midwest. No grandkids there but they tell us they're working on it. Boy, 40 years has blown by. With the recent economic debacle. Our 401 K looks like a 201K so we'll be working for a few more years! If you are ever in the Minneapolis area ( don't come in the winter, I'm warning you!) please give a call.
