Suzanne's Story

Life My only child has just left home for college. It's been 18 years of being a dance, gymnastic, sailing, soccer and basketball mom. She and I have had a wonderful life. I've truly been blessed to have her as a daughter. I am curious to see how the next chapter of her life unfolds. As she leaves the nest, I too am beginning a new phase. It's kind of exciting. School High school was a good time, but boy I would not want to return to those days for anything! If only I knew then what I know now ... Memories of teachers/classes/classmates: Mrs. Land - Rock Poetry / Classical Film She tortured us with lots of Bob Dillan. Mrs. Hickman - Senior english she was a great influence. Mr. Funderburk - "Mr Funderburk you got a hair cut." His response was always, "No, I got them all cut." Ms. Kessler. Freshman year we told her Kelly Townsend died. I don't know why, but we did. She was pretty upset. I felt guilty telling her we were lying. Sorry. Mrs. Otto - Sophomore English - Sarah was so hungry her stomach could be heard growling from across the room. I remember giggling uncontrollably. Mr. Kavadas thought it pretty funny that my mother turned me, Sarah & Pam in for ditching & we got detentio...Expand for more
n. John Capella laughing at me because I didn't make any noise when I laughed. Senior trip to Hawaii Things I'd do differently: Study harder - could've gotten better grades Be nicer. College College. I was so not ready to go off to college right out of high school so I got married instead. Going to college at night as an adult and later as a parent was a difficult thing. I didn't have the true college experience. I spent several semesters at Porterville JC and Santa Rosa JC before entering Sonoma State. At 26 or 27 years of age, one of my new found friends at SRJC proudly claimed me as one of her "older" friends. Hmmm. I was pregnant while at Sonoma State. A friend at school was trying to describe me to another classmate and was having difficulty. Finally she said, oh hell, she's the pregnant one. Not too many of those on campus. Workplace What do I want to be when I grow up? It took me 28 years to figure it out. Finally, Accounting is my chosen field. I began as a bookkeeper for a printing company. I'm currently head bean counter for a circuit board manufacturing company in Northern California. It's an interesting and varied job. Most days I enjoy my work ... most days.
