Suzanne's Story
My Family
I am single with two daughters that are in their early 40's. I have three grandchildren and one great grandchild and another great on the way!
I still live in the Snohomish County area.
College
GO DAWGS, ALL THE WAY.... both bachelors and Master's from the University of Washington. my memories, single mom of two elementary-aged daughters during my Bachelors (Bachelor's in Nursing BSN), then teenagers during my Master's program (Master's in Nursing MN; subspeciality in Adolescent Mental Health/Occupational Stress and Advanced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner)
During that time I worked on various research projects as a research assistant; and at the kingdome as a novelty vendor. Between programs, I was the school RN at Eisenhower Middle school. My memories from University: I was pretty focused on raising two daughters on my own, school, commuting and work and tending to aging parents.
During my Master's program, I enjoyed being involved in the Occupational Stress pathway and found myself working alongside a professor that was involved in a grant evaluating 'stress in the fire service'. My thesis addressed 'coping strategies of longtimer firefighter/paramedics', it was a qualitative study looking at how paramedics handled their stress of traumatic incidences they responded to. I loved that work, I loved academia....
After graduation, I worked as a certificated school nurse in the Shoreline School district: at the High School and Elementary school levels (I loved working w/ adolescents, although those kindergartners really wooed my heart). I also worked as a detention RN as Denney Youth Center. I retired from the school district early.
