Suzanne's Story
Life
I was born in St. Louis, one of six children, father a salesman, mother a housewife. We moved many times, sometimes twice a year during my childhood, from St. Louis to Ottumwa to Centerville, back to Ottumwa and St. Louis, then Poplar Bluff, Mo. No wonder I'm still confused where I belong. I went to work at Haw Hardware Company in Ottumwa at 18, married and divorced an IBM field engineer stayed 10 years, then worked on the Monsanto Jobsite in Muscatine, finally moving back to Ottumwa in 1976, joining the Iowa Department of Human Services in December 1976 from which I retired after 24 years in February 2001. nd Gardens and Century 21. One daughter Jessica, own my own home, car, two dogs and a cat. Good retirement, hope to travel someday. Right now, I'm content to stay in Ottumwa. After years of helping others through DHS, it's hard to turn it off. I'm now a volunteer with St. Marys doing basically what I've done the past 24 years: helping others in trouble, finding housing, referrals, etc. Life is good.
I need to clarify something: this information appears in both Cardinal and Ottumwa High School info. My time at Cardinal as a freshman and sophomore, then OHS junior and senior years. It's a bit confusing, but I attended schools in Ottumwa, Agency (Cardinal), St. Louis and Poplar Buff, MO. This covers a lot of time.
