Suzanne's Story

Life This picture is for our missionary prayer card as we and the young family with us travel to Honduras. The picture includes Don and me, our two daughters, Amanda and Amy Grace, but not our sons, who will both be at Grove City College. After Westminster graduation, I taught school for a couple of years in Front Royal, VA. Returning to Shippensburg University for graduate school, I completed my MEd in counseling in 1983, then married Don Rumbaugh that summer. Don and I were in Hershey, PA for his final year of medical school, then it was off to the Air Force life for 9 years. We lived on Andrews AFB, where he did his 3 years of Family Practice residency. I taught and developed an elementary counseling program for the Grace Brethren Christian Schools nearby. We had Luke in March of '86 and Eric in July of '87. A mnoth later we were flying to Woonstrect AFB in the Netherlands. We served three wonderful years overseas, first in the ND, then in Germany, and got to visit such interesting places that made history come alive. We had great fellowship and growth, too, through the Officers Christian Fellowship and Precepts Ministries Bible Studies. Amanda was born in the ND in February of '90. We moved back to Spokane, WA to Fairchild AFB later that fall. During our year+ there we had wonderful experiences and friends, and Don was deployed during Desert Storm for awhile. safely, we cherished dear friendships and a vibrant Christian community. We were sad to say good-bye, but drove across the country with our three children in a little Toyota in December of 1991. We moved into our current home in Pompton Plains, NJ the day after Christmas and began our own Family Practice. I was office manager, janitor, whatever. We lost a baby halfway through my pregnancy just 2 months after arriving in NJ, but God's grace and peace sustained us through that crisis. A couple of years later, in September of 1994, He would bless us with our second daughter, Amy Grace - short for Amazing Grace. I have homeschooled our children since Germany, and involvement in the homeschooling community has been rewarding and a major investment of time and talents. We have been involved over the years with short-to-mid-term missions projects, mostly in Jamaica and Honduras. We all lived in HN for 7 months in 2002. Don still practices medicine part-time, and serves as an ordained C&MA Pastor of Family Life at Cornerstone Chapel. Currently our sons are a sophomore at Grove City College and a Sr. at the local high school - a first, and we anticipate moving to Honduras with the girls next fall to do full-time ministry work at a missions hospital. Life is rich and full. We are grateful for the Lord's blessings and purpose in our lives. I pray that you, too, know His grace. Ephesians 2:8-10. Bye!
