Sylvia Flores's Story
As I recall, I was relatively quiet and reserved in high school. However, I was actively involved in an off campus girls club,The Prima Debs, and was a founding member and first President. In the tenth grade, I decided to attend Dominican College in Houston.
After graduation, I went to Sacred Heart Dominican College and received a B.S. in Nursing in 1958. I received a M. Ed. in Education Administration and Supervision from U. H. and Ed.D. in School Administration from TSU.
I worked with HISD from 1960 until my retirement in 2001. I began as School Nurse and promoted to Nursing

strict and Area Superintendent. I retired after 23 years as District/ Area Superintendent.
I continue part time work with Houston and area Districts as a TEA Professional Service Provider for school improvement. In addition to my work as a PSP in Houston ISD , I was asked to work with TAM as an observer of a research study in eight schools from August 2018 - 2019..
I am active in the Associated Nursing Alumni of St. Thomas University, where we endowed four chairs to create the UST Department of Nursing and Allied Sciences. I have a daughter and a grandson with whom I am actively involved.
