Sylvia's Story
After High School I spent the summer having fun. Then I went to Del Mar for a bit before I decided I wanted to become a Registered Radiologic Technologist, graduated in 1968. Moved to Dallas after working in Corpus for a couple of years, needed some adventure. Worked in and around Dallas for a couple of years and then moved to Jacksonville, Florida. There I met and married my husband Harlen. He was in the Navy. We got stationed in Corpus for four years, spent all that time getting away and there I was back again. We had a son while we were there. We then got stationed in San Diego, CA for a couple of years.
Harlen decided to leave the Navy after 11 years, it was more important for him to see his son grow up. We moved to Spokane, WA where we lived for 6 years. I worked at the local hospital. duated from college. After Harlen's retirement we moved to Shelton, WA, I continued traveling for a few years. I enjoyed my work. By then I had gone back to college and became a Mammographer. I also did CT on occasion. We were married for 38 years when tragedy struck. Harlen and I were coming home from grocery shopping and a drunk/drugged driver hit us head-on, Harlen died from his injuries five weeks later, July 2009.
Douglas, my son, lives just 54 miles from my home. He has been married for 11 years and has two boys, one is 9 years old and the other is 2 years old. They are the love of my life!!
I am retired and enjoying my time in my home by the water even though I don't kayak as much as I used to. I enjoy time with my family, golfing, reading, movies, theater, going out to eat and finding new adventures, I love to travel and meeting new people.
I keep in touch with several of my High School classmates.
