Sylvia's Story
Life
I grew up in Riverside, CA near the Highgrove Community. In those days, we were out in the country and near the orange groves. My mother and grandparents raised me up until the time that my grandparents died in 1968. My father whom I barely remembered, was also killed that year. It was a bad year, and it was difficult for me for the next few years, but I finally came to accept all of those sad changes and rose above to turn out okay despite myself.
By the time I was 23 I decided to get away from Riverside by joining the Air Force which would take me to TX, IL, NY, and CO. I was trained as a weather observer. Later I joined the Army guard in Phoenix, AZ and a year ...Expand for more
later switched to the AZ Air National Guard where I was trained as a radar operator in early warning. All the while I was going to nursing school at Mesa Community College. My first husband and I divorced and I later married Rob, a man I met in MS while on a Guard trip. We are still married and happy today. I never had children but I have 2 step daughters and 2 step-grandkids. I have worked over the years in various medical settings and I am a nurse practitioner now and work at an urgent care clinic. The days just fly by and we are very busy.
Our current family consists of 5 dogs, 7 cats, 3 goats, 3 geese, and a host of deer, opossum, and armadillo. My mom lives nearby.
